About the Passive Climate Journal

The Passive Climate Journal is an independent English-language magazine about low-energy building and passive climatisation. It explains how solar heat and ground coolth heat, cool and ventilate a building, how an older house is retrofitted, and how such projects are planned and measured. The articles are written for owners, self-builders, trades and designers.

What this magazine covers

The content falls into three sections. The first covers passive systems: the thermal barrier in an external wall, ground heat storage, earth tubes and solar roofs that act as collectors. The second looks at retrofit and insulation, from deep retrofit to insulation materials and airtightness with controlled ventilation. The third gathers the groundwork, the standards and the history of passive technology. Each article tries to answer a question fully and help the reader make a decision.

How the articles are written

The articles are written by the editorial team and kept in the third person. They describe technology, methods and institutions without identifying with them. The magazine sells nothing, arranges no work and represents no manufacturer. Where a source matters it is named in the text. Where figures are uncertain they are marked as such. Historical systems are described factually and dated, not promoted.

What this magazine is not

The Passive Climate Journal is not a builder, a design office or an official representative of any organisation or brand. It is also not legal or financial advice. Anyone building or retrofitting should leave the binding design to specialists and follow the rules in force. The articles are meant to inform and to frame a decision, not to replace individual advice.
